Pain is something that most of us dread, but pain often serves a useful purpose: it tells us that something is wrong and that we need to do something about it. So, that toothache or pain in the back should not be ignored. Unfortunately painkillers mask pain rather than treating it taking a pain killer is often like shooting a messenger bearing bad tidings. So what can you do if you have pain?

Sometimes the choice is obvious: if you have toothache, you need to visit a dentist. Sometimes its less clear. What do you do if you have backache? There are several different choices, including visiting an osteopath, a chiropractor, a sports therapist or an Alexander technique teacher. Sometimes specific exercises will do the trick. Have a look at the books by Pete Egoscue for simple easy exercises you can do to help alleviate chronic pain.

Sometimes chronic pain responds well to a change in diet. Some people with arthritis find that reducing their meat intake and/or sugar and white flour intake works well. Some pain is caused by allergy problems, so check this out with a kinesiologist. A recent study on irritable bowel syndrome has shown that many sufferers are allergic to foods, such as yeast (in bread, alcohol, etc.), wheat, peas, cashew nuts, almonds, barley, beef and soya. Migraine sufferers often do well if they exclude certain trigger foods, such as chocolate, cheese, red wine and citrus fruit.

Drinking lots of water can help. So can eating lots of fruit and vegetables. These are rich in antioxidants, which help keep the joints lubricated and so prevent stiffness. Many people swear by fish oil supplements, or glucosamine sulphate to keep them fit and supple into old age.

People who dont suffer from eczema or psoriasis probably think of it as irritating, but do not realise how painful it can be as well. As the skin cracks and bleeds it can be excruciatingly painful when I had eczema as a teenager the pain often reduced me to tears. Recently I have become very excited about a relatively new product called Fruit Force (www.fruitforce.co.uk or 0116 260 2963). It comes as capsules or cream and contains salvestrols. Salvestrols are natural chemicals produced by plants to counteract fungal infection. Unfortunately if you buy non-organic fruit it is unlikely to have a high level of salvestrols non-organic fruit is often sprayed with fungicides and so the fruit does not need to produce its own natural fungicide. From my own experience and talking to other practitioners this product works well for many people with eczema or psoriasis. I suggest you smear a small amount of the cream on the affected skin three times a day and also take one capsule a day.

Whatever you do, dont just put up with pain. Have a look at all the possibilities, not just painkillers.

Here's how you play: Once you've been 'tagged', you have to write a blog of 10 weird/random facts/habits/goals about yourself. ... (not the wheatgrass, I've been throwing up all of the time), now I can't imagine having another one. 10. My goal? To live. If I can survive this. . . "whatever", I will make more goals....

wheatgrass pregnancyFocus on Feet

You've surely experienced aching feet at some point in your life. My first memorable experience was as a young adult. Having bought my first home, I would clean, paint, and do house projects from dawn till dusk on weekends. At the end of the day, the pain in my feet would be almost unbearable. Since that time several decades ago, awareness of the importance of foot health has grown. But, in truth, do any of us take much, if any, time out of a busy day to nurture our feet?

We surely should. The foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, 107 ligaments, and 19 muscles. When these bones are out of alignment, so is the rest of our body. Considering that the average person takes eight to ten thousand steps a day, the chance that some part of the complex system in our foot will go awry is fairly high.

While aching feet is not a major topic in the Cayce readings, it certainly qualifies as a significant secondary one. Many people, when given the chance to question the sleeping Cayce, would come to a question about their feet. As I perused these readings, I had a sense that sore feet is simply a part of the human condition, now and then. With that in mind, my research led me to two suggestions that I felt Cayce would want you to consider as you set out to nurse your feet back toward optimum health.

First and foremost, if your feet hurt and are out of alignment, your legs, knees, hips, and lower back will probably hurt, too. Cayce would suggest that osteopathic adjustments would be in order:

"(Q) What doctor should give the foot treatments?

"(A) The one that also gives the osteopathic spinal corrections." (678-2)

Another reading underscores the above suggestion: "(Q) What should be done for the condition of the feet?

"(A) The treatments from the lumbar area, in the corrections osteopathically, and then adjustments by the foot treatment to the bursae in the feet; and these will aid materially in relieving the pressure." (257- 163)

It seems clear that the aid and attention of an osteopath is important in correcting and keeping your feet at their best. The second suggestion would be to massage your feet daily with a combination of ingredients as follows:

"To 4 ounces of Russian White Oil, add:

Witchhazel - 2 ounces,

Rub alcohol - 1 ounce, (notwood, but rub alcohol compound)

Oil of Sassafras - 3 to 5 minims.

"Shake this together. Only use a small portion of same at the time. Begin with the hips and rub down.

"This would be good for anyone that stands on the feet much, or whose feet pain, or ankle or knees or tendons." (555-5)

This is probably the most "famous" Cayce foot-care formula and is available from Baar Products as SweetFeet.

I personally struggle with hip and knee pain and have recently begun to follow these two suggestions. I can attest to the fact that the improvement has been phenomenal. I hope that you will find the same!
