Ayurveda, an ancient healing system is best for treating the urinary tract infection caused by bacteria in the urinary tract as it balances the infection-fighting properties of the urinary system.

According to Ayurveda all living things are characterized by three active doshas Vata, Pitta and Kapha and believes that aggravated Pitta produces heating toxins in the body which accumulate in the mutra vahi strota (urinary channels) causes UTI.

Ayurveda's integrated approach to UTI includes a healthier life style, modified diet, intake of herbal supplements and practicing yoga as follows:

Lifestyle :

  • Mental feelings like excessive stress and anger are to be controlled.
  • Not to sleep excessively in the daytime after eating.
  • To go to bed early and get enough sleep at night
  • Not to expose to sun and heat excessively
  • Wear loose-fitting and cotton clothes.

Diet :

  • Drink plenty of water as it cleanses your body by diluting and flushing out the unwanted substance.
  • Take Vitamin C rich diet as it prevents the bacterial growth due to the acidic environment created in the bladder and the urinary tract.
  • Avoid processed food like cheese, chocolate and dairy products.
  • Do not take spicy food, caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes.
  • Not to take carbonated drinks like beer, soda or any other drink with fizz.
  • Avoid foods and drinks that are difficult to digest like white flour products.

Herbal supplements:

Ayurvedic herbs like Gokshura (Tribulus terrestris), Punarnava (Boerrhavia diffusa), Guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia), Chandan (Santalum album) are the effective natural cures.

Yoga:

Gomukhasana (Cow's face pose), Pawanmuktasana (The knee to chest), Ardha Matsendra Asana (Half spinal twist) are few useful yogic practices to fight UTI.

In Ayurvedic medicine, the UTI treatment takes patience, discipline and a full commitment to one's health to restore balance but the results are well worth the effort.
