These home remedies for nausea are based on simple, traditional Chinese ways to relieve and prevent this common and uncomfortable symptom. Several remedies use ginger for its ability to harmonize and settle the stomach. These particular ginger remedies for nausea can therefore also be used in cases where vomiting occurs as well. Note though that ginger has a warming effect on the body, so if you feel uncomfortably hot or flushed or perhaps have a headache after taking it via one of these remedies for nausea, reduce the amount of ginger next time, or try a non-ginger remedy.

Home Remedies for Nausea

Remedy 1. Ginger Milk: Boil 250ml of fresh, whole milk, 25ml of ginger juice (made from crushing fresh ginger) and 25g of brown sugar for 10 minutes. Sip slowly while it's still hot.

Remedy 2. Ginger Water: Put 3 slices of fresh ginger in a cup, add boiling water, and brown sugar to taste. Drink warm. Leave the ginger in the cup and top it up with more water 1 or 2 times throughout the day if necessary.

Remedy 3. Ginger Tea: Put 3 slices of fresh ginger and 2-3 grams of black tea (or a tea bag) in a cup. Add boiling water, then let it steep for several minutes. Drink warm. As above, leave the ingredients in the cup and top it up throughout the day if necessary.

Remedy 4. Pu Er Tea: From Yunnan province in China, and widely available, this tea is highly regarded for its beneficial effects on digestion. It may be used in cases of nausea, vomiting and even obesity. Put 5 or 6 grams in a cup, add boiling water, then let it steep for several minutes. Drink it warm. Re-use it throughout the day, as above.

Remedy 5. Orange Peel: Perhaps the simplest of all these home remedies for nausea, but not necessarily the least effective. Peel an orange and bruise the skin by twisting and crushing it with your fingers. Hold the skin to your nose and sniff the scent.

Remedy 6. Acupressure: Applying thumb pressure to a specific point on your wrists makes for another very simple, yet highly effective remedy for nausea. This point is well known by Chinese medicine practitioners for its ability to relieve anxiety, stress, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms. For greater effectiveness it is recommended that you combine some of the above home remedies for nausea. For instance, choose one ginger remedy and take it once or twice a day, plus do the acupressure several times a day. Note also that if you're pregnant and suffering from morning sickness, ginger is one of the most common and safest Chinese home remedies for nausea and vomiting. Aromatherapy

Use hot compresses with essential oils of, tea tree or lavender to draw out the infection and speed healing. Once the boil has drained, apply 1 or 2 drops of tea tree oil 3 to 4 times a day until the wound has healed. An antiseptic, tea tree oil is effective in killing bacteria.

Ayurvedic Medicine

According to Ayruveda, boils could be caused by chronic constipation, a toxic liver, or diabetes. To heal a boil, an Ayurvedic practitioner may suggest applying a ginger turmeric paste. Be sure to cover the boil with a bandage; turmeric stains fabric and skin.

Herbal Therapy

To heal a boil, take a combination of tinctures of echinacea, cleavers, and yellow dock. Combine the tinctures in equal amounts and take 1 teaspoonful of the blend 3 times daily. Nettle tea is also beneficial. To make the tea, steep 1 to 2 teaspoons chopped fresh herb in 1 cup boiling water for 10 minutes; strain. Drink 2 cups a day.

Goldenseal may also be beneficial, as it helps cleanse the lymph glands. Take it as directed on the label, and consult your healthcare provider before using it if you have a history of diabetes, cardiovascular disease or glaucoma. Note: This herb should not be taken daily for more than 1 week, and should not be taken at all if pregnant.

You also might try adding raw garlic to your diet. Alternatively, you can take a garlic capsule 3 times daily.

An onion poultice may hasten healing. The onion should be wrapped in cloth before it is applied, and should not directly touch the boil.

Herbal products are available in health food stores and in some pharmacies and supermarkets. Follow package for specific directions.

Homeopathy

Homeopathic practitioners often recomend one of the following treatments for boils, depending on your symptoms: Silicea to help a boil come to a head; Belladonna if the boil is hot, red, and throbbing, but With very little pus; and Hepar sulphuris to help Your body reabsorb a boil before pus has formed.

Hydrotherapy

Use hot compresses for 15 minutes several times a day to help draw out the boil. Or use alternate hot and cold compresses; apply hot for 3 to 5 minutes, then cold for 30 seconds. Apply ice to the boil and a hot compress over the ice.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture Treatment for boils should be focused on the liver meridians.

Chinese Herbal Therapy Since boils and furuncles are usually caused by a staphylococcal infection and tend to recur in individuals with impaired immunity or those under extreme stress, TCM practitioners will typically prescribe herbs to fight the infection and strengthen the immune system.

I was recently asked by on of my clients: What words or phrase would I say to get rid of this swelling under my left eye? I notice it Sunday evening. It's very annoying. PLEASE Tell me exactly what I would say to get rid of this.

Remember the words themselves aren't magic. There are not exact right words. The words are only reminders to help us tune into the issue. It is possible for me to say, "This swelling, this swelling, this swelling," and be thinking about what I am making for dinner tonight.

The three basic approaches we can take to any physical issue. These approaches work for any physical issue, but I will use the swelling under the eye from the question as an example.

1) Tap on how you would describe what is going on under eye. There is nothing too complicated about this approach. Just pretend you are describing to a doctor over the phone what is going on. Give all the details you can. What does it look like? How does it feel? How long have your had it? So you would tap:

Under my eye is swelling

It looks red and swollen

It feels like there is puss or goo in the swollen spot

It wasn't there last night

But was here this morning

I shouldn't be there

2) Tap on what you image in going on inside of the eye. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths. Image what it looks like inside they swollen part. What color do you image it to be? Is it just one color or a number of colors? If you were going to make a model to show others what it feels like, what substance would you use to describe it? How much space does it take up? Is it something foreign in the eye or is part of your body that is sick or diseased? As you tune in this fashion tap. As I write this I have an ache in my shoulder right now and these are the phrase I would tap on:

The stiffness in my shoulder

That feels like thick molasses have been spread on muscles.

The whole area looks like it has blue and grey gunk filling it up

The stiffness is about five inches long and goes about one inch deep into the muscle

It is round like a rod

The very middle of the stiffness is the stiffest part

3) Tap on how you feel about the swelling. Often part of the healing of the physical body is the emotions we have about the sickness. Clean up any of the emotions you have about part that is bothering you. This way you are not spending in energy in worry and frustration so that the body can have all of the resources it needs to heal.

I don't like the way my eye looks

It disports my whole face

Everyone is going to ask me about it

I don't want to talk about it.

This is just one more way my body is breaking down as I am getting old

I am going to be self conscious about this all day

Worried that the acupuncturists you find in the yellow pages isn�t qualified? How would you know? How do you find a qualified acupuncturist and what do you expect when you do?

Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine that is still being used. In the United States, the National Institutes of Health recognizes acupuncture�s effectiveness in the treatment of back pain and for the nauseas caused by chemotherapy and pregnancy. The NIH currently funds studies on the efficacy of acupuncture for many other conditions where the anecdotal evidence is strong. These conditions include many pain related problems, women�s health issues and fatigue.

For most US acupuncture practitioners, the road to becoming an acupuncturist starts in acupuncture school. Finishing the program typically confers a master�s degree, which means that most acupuncture schools require a bachelor�s degree in some subject in order to enter. Currently, a few schools have begun offering doctoral programs in acupuncture however these programs are geared towards those considering research or specializing in a particular area. The practitioner level is the master�s level degree.

Once the practitioner has gotten a degree, most of them take a standardized test. California has their own test. All other states that require an examination use a national test given by the NCCAOM. The NCCAOM acupuncture exam tests the understanding of basic acupuncture theory and point location.

Some states, where the scope of practice allows Chinese Herbal Medicine, require that the potential practitioner pass the NCCAOM exam on Chinese Herbal Medicine as well as the acupuncture examination. Some states that allow the use of herbal medicine do not require this step. Many practitioners who are particularly adept at Chinese Herbal Medicine will opt to take this test anyway, but for some, the cost is prohibitive.

After getting their degree and passing the NCCAOM exam, practitioners can then apply to their state for licensure. Mot states have regulations about who can become acupuncturists, but not all. For those in states that do not regulate acupuncture, it is best to find someone who has at least complete their degree and taken the national board. In all other states, a licensed practitioner will generally have met those requirements and any others required by the state, such as full background check.

Most people advertising their practice will comply with all these steps. However, it is always good practice to check out the person you think you ant to work with. What is their office like? An extremely common ailment which probably all of us have experienced before, cough is a vital bodily function and can be technically defined as an involuntary reflex signalled and triggered by our brain to clear a blockage or irritant (e.g phlegm, cigarette smoke, pungent gas, dust, etc) from the air passage. What is visible or audible to us when this happens is a sudden expulsion of air from the lungs that helps clear airway very quickly.

When you complain of having a cough, doctors or pharmacists often like to ask this question: is it chesty or dry? Chesty cough or productive cough is characterised by the presence of mucus or phlegm on the chest, whereas in a dry cough where the throat and upper airways are inflamed or irritated, no phlegm is produced or expelled. In some cases, a cough can be chesty but is not productive. This happens when the phlegm is not loose enough to be coughed up.

Many smokers can have a continual dry cough throughout their lives. A cough caused by a viral infection such as the flu or common cold usually disappears within two weeks; if it does not, it may be a symptom of a more serious problem and x-rays may be necessary to diagnose the problem. Persistent or chronic cough could be caused by environmental irritants or even stress (such a cough disappears while sleeping), but it could also be a sign of viral infection like bronchitis or pneumonia, whereby antibiotic medicine would be required. Signs and symptoms that point to an infection include fever, chills, body aches, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, headache, sinus pressure, runny nose, and night sweats. When cough is a warning sign of an underlying cancer of the lung or air passage, other symptoms may also be present, including worsening fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss, or decreased ability to swallow solid or liquid foods.

Cure

Over-the-counter cough syrups for minor coughs are easily accessible. There are two primary goals in treating a cough: one is to suppress the cough reflex, especially when a cough causes pain or affects with sleep; the other is to thin the mucus, making it easier to bring up and be flushed from the body. It's beneficial to drink lots of water, warm broth, tea, and room-temperature fruit or vegetable juice to help thin and loosen the mucus.

I notice that across different cultures, home remedy for cough can vary a lot. There is obviously an interesting vast array of recipes for treating cough, but you may not be very comfortable with some of them depending a lot on the beliefs you grow up with (such as the concept of "heaty and cooling foods" which I tend to believe in). Here I would mention a few using honey, one of nature's most precious gifts:

1. Mix equal amount of honey and lemon grass juice then drink to reduce the coughs.

2. Mix a syrup consisting of 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons water, mix and drink.

3. Boil some water with 2 garlic cloves, 1 table spoon of oregano. Pour into a cup add 1 tablespoon of honey and drink.

4. Make a lemon and honey drink. Active Manuka honey and propolis have been commonly used as ingredients in the home remedy for cough because of their strong antibacterial properties.

Some researchers believe that honey, a traditional, natural home remedy for cough can offer a "safe and legitimate alternative" to dextromethorphan (DM), which can occasionally cause severe side-effects in children, including muscle contractions and spasms. A study (2007) by researchers from Penn State College of Medicine, US, involved 105 children with coughs between the ages of 2 and 18. Before bed, the children were given artificial honey-flavoured DM cough syrup, buckwheat honey or nothing at all. Results revealed that parents of children who received the honey rated their children's sleep and symptoms as better! Honey's ability as a home remedy for cough may be due to the way it soothes on contact and stimulates saliva. However, please note that honey should not be given to children under age 1 because of a rare but serious risk of botulism.

What is the biggest mistake people make about stomach ache?

Calling it stomach ache. The stomach (fortunately) does not ache. Usually when people say their stomach aches, they mean they have a gas pain. Gas pain can be severe pain. My friends who work in emergency rooms say you wouldn't believe how many people come in for what turns out to be gas pain.

What herbal allies would you recommend for those dealing with:

HEARTBURN?

Herbalists, myself included, see heartburn as a lack of HCL (hydrochloric acid) in the stomach, instead of the prevalent opinion, that it is caused by too much acid. So instead of trying to turn off production of HCL (as drugs attempt to do), herbalists seek herbs that increase HCL, such as dandelion (Taraxacum officinale). In my book Healing Wise I devote an entire chapter to dandelion, with lots of recipes and ideas on how to use it.

You can use any part of dandelion: the flowers make dandelion wine, you can cook the greens, or eat them in salad, you can even cook the root, or make a vinegar with it (my favorite), or tincture it. Some people make a coffee substitute from roasted dandelion root. Any way you take it seems to work. (A standard dose would be 10-20 drops of the root tincture taken at the beginning of the meal.) Dandelion, and its friend chicory (Cichorium intybus), which is a fine substitute should you have access to one and not the other, are true tonics. That is, the more you take them, the less you need them. You don't have to keep taking this remedy forever. After 3-6 weeks you'll find you need it less and less.

In Europe it is customary to take bitters before a big meal. Most mild bitters, such as yellow dock (Rumex crispus), cronewort/mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris), gentian (Gentiana lutea), barberry (Berberis vulgaris), and Oregon grape are liver tonics and digestives. They aid in digestion, and decrease risk of heartburn, by increasing production of both HCL and bile.

A few more tips for those who suffer from heartburn:

Eat less at each meal
Stay upright after eating; no lounging around or sleeping
Avoid eating late at night
Reduce the amount of coffee you drink
Don't overdo it with the orange juice, either
Use slippery elm lozenges (available in health food stores) for immediate relief from heartburn

2B. ULCERS?

The herbs that increase HCL in the stomach, such as dandelion, also decrease ulcers, which are the result of a bacterial infection. When stomach acid is increased, that bacteria has a harder time of it and is less likely to cause ulcers.

Amusing isn't it that medical science says "OK, there must be a mind/body connection, because gastrointestinal ulcers are caused by stress"; only to find out what my herbal teachers taught me long ago: bacteria cause ulcers.

Here's one way to kill that bacteria (besides taking drugs): Get a food grater with a very fine grating side. Grate a large potato as finely as possible. Into another bowl, grate � to � of a cabbage. Let them sit for 10-15 minutes, until liquid starts to collect in the bottom of the bowls. Use your hand, or something hard, to press and squeeze the potato until it is dry. Throw away the pulp and keep the liquid. Repeat with the cabbage. Don't use a juicer. There are plant starches that you don't get when you use a juicer. A food processor is ok.

Put the liquids in separate jars in the refrigerator, taking 1-3 tablespoonfuls 2-3 times a day. The more severe the symptoms, the larger and more frequent the dose would be. I expect symptomatic relief within 36-48 hours. But this remedy is safe to take for weeks at a time if needed.

If you can't make the potato liquid, you can buy potato starch and mix it with water. Instead of the cabbage liquid, you could buy coleslaw. It isn't the same as grating the potato and the cabbage, but it is better than nothing. And even if it doesn't work as fast, if that is what is available to you, use it.

2C. STOMACH ACHE?

To me, this means gas pain. Herbs that relieve gas pain are called "carminatives" because they make you "sing" (carmen). Many aromatic herbs are carminatives, especially the seeds of members of the Apiaceae family including dill seed, caraway seeds, fennel seeds, anise seeds, coriander seeds, and cumin seeds. Just put a big spoonful in a cup, cover well with boiling water, steep five minutes, sweeten if you like, and drink.

Ginger is another readily-available carminative. Especially warming to the gut. You can make a tea with powdered ginger, or use up to a tablespoon of fresh ginger per cup of water for a strong brew. Ginger works best sweetened with honey. NASA found it would counter the nausea of space-sickness. You can also buy crystallized or candied ginger to take traveling with you.

The fastest remedy for gas pain is two capsules of acidophilus. I expect pain relief in 5-10 minutes. And I don't pay much attention to the expiration date on it. I keep mine in the refrigerator, and use them so rarely that I often have a bottle for ten years - and they still work.

Eating yogurt helps prevent gas pain, and can be used as a remedy, but it is not as fast as the acidophilus. A quart of yogurt a week is a good goal. And buy plain yogurt. No need to pay a fancy price for white sugar and poor quality fruit. Add maple syrup or honey and fruit of your choice, fresh or frozen at home. Make your own fantasy yogurt creation.

And the bitter tonic herbs mentioned above are also excellent allies to take long-term if you have frequent gas pains.

When I was in Spain I often had to eat late at night. Then I would take a sip of their very strong coffee, served in tiny cups. It had just the right amount of push to get that food into my digestive tract and still allow me to fall asleep at a reasonable time.

But most people in America drink coffee in the morning on an empty stomach. Might this be one reason so many are in such digestive distress? Instead of coffee, try this:

Put one ounce by weight of dried peppermint leaf in a quart jar and fill to the top with boiling water.
Cap tightly and allow to steep for 4-8 hours. (OK to let it steep while you sleep.)
Strain the plant material out after the allotted time, squeezing it well.
Then drink the liquid: hot or cold, salty or sweetened, with milk or whiskey or what have you.
Refrigerate what you don't drink then. This will stay good in the refrigerator for up to three weeks.

Peppermint helps move the intestines and make you feel really awake, just like coffee. I would not use it if someone were feeling nauseated, as it tastes vile on the way back out.

Just by cooking dinner a woman can heal her family and keep them healthy. She can protect her husband's heart by using lots of garlic. And protect his libido by serving less soy.

Many Americans have food phobias. Think about how many people are frightened of drinking milk. How many won't eat bread. I go into the health food store to get bread and there are loaves with no flour, and those with no yeast, and those without wheat, and I wonder where all the bread has gone.

We have a national history of food phobias, starting with Graham (inventor of the healthy graham cracker), continuing with Kellogg (of breakfast flake fame), and right into the modern day's current fads (no fat? no carbs? all protein? all raw?). From regular beans, try this simple five-step approach - guaranteed to reduce how much you "toot"

Soak your beans overnight in a generous amount of cold water. Add a piece of wakame or kombu if desired.
Rinse beans thoroughly in cold water (retain seaweed).
Cover beans with fresh cold water, add retained seaweed, and cook until tender.
Cool.
Reheat beans to serve.

8. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE TO ADD?

Yes, I believe all peppers are upsetting to the digestive tract. I suggest avoiding black pepper and cayenne, jalapeno and all others if you are prone to heartburn, have frequent gas pain, or suffer from irritable bowel or even simple diarrhea.

A boil is an inflamed area, usually based in a hair follicle, and can be caused by a physical condition such as diabetes, acne, or severe dermatitis and can also result from low immunity, irritations, an illness, stress, food allergy, poor diet, shaving, plucking hairs or poor hygiene. A boil usually starts as a tender area, becoming hard and swelling, and eventually softening and forming a head. The head is filled with bacteria and the white blood cells fighting the infection (pus). Staphylococcus is the bacteria that is usually found in the pus of a boil.

The bacteria involved are those usually present on healthy skin, so the boil is an indication of low resistance to infection.

It is advised not to lance the boil, because bacteria can spread to nearby skin and create new boils. Apply hot packs for up to 20 minutes at a time, throughout the day, as the heat draws more white blood cells, thereby helping to fight the infection. Do not cover with a bandaid. Wash with tea tree oil soap and apply antiseptic cream containing tea tree oil. A drop or two of tea tree oil may also be applied directly to the boil. Dab it on with a piece of clean cotton, do not rub or otherwise irritate the boil.

Procedure to be followed periodically throughout the day: Dab some tea tree oil onto the boil with a piece of cotton to help bring it to a head, then cover with a piece of gauze. Cover the gauze with a damp washcloth, followed by a dry towel and then apply a heating pad. Leave on a low temperature for about 15 minutes. Change your dressing and reapply the tea tree oil. The oil helps bring the boil to a head while the warm compress helps pull the infection out of the skin; the tea tree oil then acts as an antiseptic and antibiotic on the bacteria in the pus. Be sure to throw away the gauze each time, and wash your hands with tea tree oil soap each time you handle the gauze or touch the boil.

Sometimes a boil�s bacteria can spread to a lymph node that is nearby. If there is a boil on the neck, check the lymph glands for swelling and tenderness. You should visit a doctor if this occurs, also if there is fever or lethargy. It's important to learn to listen to your body and recognize when tea tree oil treatment will be enough, and when you need the help of a doctor.

As a kid I read 19th century literature, including "On Walden Pond" by Henry David Thoreau. An early environmentalist, HDT eschewed modernization and lived his own philosophy by leaving civilization and building himself a cabin in the New England woods "on Walden Pond" ("pond" being the New England vernacular for "lake"). There he journaled his thoughts about living simply, and decried the advancement of the modern age, industrialization, and its desecration of Nature and simple values.

The book partially grandfathered the Back-to-Nature, and subsequent organic movements of the 20th century. Interestingly, the roots of those movements seem tied in two centuries, to dehumanization by tsunamis of global industrialization, commercialization, and technological fusion into the lives of ordinary people.

First, I am not 160 years old, I just read the book.

Secondly, it really is possible for bright young teenagers to learn and understand 19th century literature...unplug that screaming media center.

That said, "On Walden Pond" introduced a respect for naturalism that never left my consciousness. The thought of a simpler, more respectful and organic lifestyle is as tantalizing now as it was 160 years ago, or even 40 years ago (or 20 years ago...I'm not that old). Which is why I so greatly admire Amish and Mennonite communities for their time tested, steadfast refusal to relinquish personal freedoms to corporate industrialization.

Even I find some of HDT's suggestions somewhat impractical though (living naked in the woods is a little more exposure to tiny critters than I care to test...nasty little things). However introducing organic textiles and foods, recycling, decreasing energy consumption, and dozens of other environmentally sensible practices, will go a long way toward not only reclaiming our environment for ourselves and descendants, but will just plain make you feel comfortable.

The switch to organic living should be easy, personal, natural, and without stress. Morphing into a committed activist is not required.

So don't dive in, rack up the credit card bills, and feel obligated to protest anything (crowds can be somewhat um, smelly?). Itchy skin? Buy some organic cotton sheets or bath towels. Got a baby on the way? Buy some organic baby bedding. Try organic coffee, shop local organic produce stands on Saturday. Just relax, enjoy, and remember hot-headed Thoreau's most famous credo: "Simplify, Simplify, Simplify!".�

Liver pain is on the right side, mostly right under the rib cage, and up. There can be free fluid around the liver in the abdominal cavity which will produce pain in the right shoulder. It probably hurts to breathe in, or cough. Sometimes people describe the feeling as a swollen full feeling or cramping under the rib cage.

Liver pain symptoms are often dismissed because it is a general belief that organs don't hurt. If you are experiencing any of these sensations, don't give up, and don't think you are making it up. Liver Pain can be real. Rheumatologists, nephrologists, family practitioners, all have been known to dismiss liver pain as patient complainings.

Sometimes it feels like your liver just doesn't fit under your rib cage. One person described it as feeling like a brick was tucked under their right rib. Sometimes the feeling is connected to a pain in the back as well.

Pain caused from a swollen liver is not necessarily sharp. Most of the time 'liver pain' is just a dull ache. Sometimes the sensation is wrongly attributed to fibromyaliga.

The cause of Liver Pain may be more easily identified by identifying other symptoms, such as fatigue, itching, swollen testes, difficulties breathing, eating problems, or even shoulder pain.

There can be many reasons for liver pain. Blood and urine tests help to identify problems in the liver, but don't rule out the effects of barrage of pollutants and toxic substances in today's environment. While the liver was designed to detoxify and rid the body of foreign chemicals, it may not be equipped to handle the barrage of pollutants and toxic substances in today's environment. So, while you are checking for possible causes of the pain associated with the liver, it would be a good idea to check your body for chemical overload as well.

Individual reaction to toxic overload can vary greatly. The most common symptom associated with toxic overload is fatigue. Other symptoms include headache, muscle and joint pain, irritability, depression, mental confusion, gastrointestinal and/or cardiovascular irregularities, flu-like symptoms or allergicreactions including hives, stuffy or runny nose, sneezing and coughing which is not usually associated with liver pain, but can actually be the cause.

Like all other pain symptoms in the body, liver pain should be taken seriously.

So you want a juicer. You go wherever you go to buy kitchen gadgets. The salesperson or website starts to spit out all these tongue-twisters: juice extractor, centrifugal, triturator, masticating, hydraulic press, single-gear, double-gear, high noise levels, heat generating, nutrient preserving, homogenizer, and many more.

Enough to drive you to juice...

Starting out, you may not need to know ALL this stuff, but some basics will come in handy, and allow you to say something more intelligent than 'huh?'. A juicer comparison chart will certainly also help to prevent a costly mistake.

Don't rush out to buy the most expensive model you can afford! You may still be at the stage where you associate greens with money, rather than with vegetables. If this is the case, it will be of no use to you to have another very expensive white (or stainless steel) elephant gathering dust in a kitchen cupboard.

An $80 one will do just fine and takes up less space.

Chances are that you may just discover the joys of juicing. When this happens, any juicer comparison chart quickly becomes your new best friend...

If you already are into all the green and raw stuff and you long for a till-death-do-us-part relationship with your juicer, you will of course have to do some homework.

Talk to other juicers, read a good book or two, visit websites, and look at (and listen to!) juice extractors if you can. The effort will help you to get a feel for the differences in the technology behind each category.

In a juicer comparison, a unit such as the Braun MP80 or the Miracle Juicer MJ1000 may be recommended for beginners. Whilst not very powerful, they will give you an idea if juicing is for you.

Next, the Breville 800JE, the Nutrisource Juicer, and the Acme Juicer 6001 may be compared. These are centrifugal juicers.

One of the main differences you will pick up here, is that the Acme Juicer doesn't feature automatic pulp ejection. The Breville has this function. Your juicer comparison will tell you that the Champion components are allergic to dishwashers. Fortunately this doesn't matter too much, as a quick rinse will do the job. In contrast, the Green Star gets a serious thumbs down for this aspect. Compared to the other masticating juicers, the Omega doesn't seem to have major drawbacks.

An important factor to keep in mind is that a juicer such as the Champion, require some arm strength to operate, and is therefore not recommended for someone with a problem in this regard.

You will also discover that most expensive doesn't always equal most effective. This realization will hit home with a juicer comparison chart listing a unit such as the Norwalk Juicer Model 270, and the really powerful commercial juicers.

The Norwalk has a huge following, but it receives a lot of flak for the painstaking process involved in cleaning it. Many of the more affordable juicers are just as effective as the Norwalk, and less time-consuming to clean.
